I am often asked if we have more or less stress than we did 100 or 200 years ago.
Our lives are stressful today, but they were “way back then” as well. Life was harsh back then. One of the things that helped people to cope was a sense of support. Back then, we lived in smaller communities, had family around us and we knew our neighbours. When there was a birth in the family, people brought food and came to help out. When there was a death in the family, people brought food and came to help out.

Our Support Circles
Today, we live in large communities, our families may live hours or continents away and we have no idea who lives around us. Our support circles have grown smaller and smaller.
Let’s Talk Month embraces venting, asking for help, and the sharing and telling of our stories as a way of gaining and giving support. It is one of the three main pillars in positive stress management.
